Amarok collection corruption
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 01:02 CEST
Well dang nabbit! I love how Amarok has a nice OSD with album covers, works with my laptop's multimedia keys and how it makes searching and queuing wonderfully easy. But did it really have to corrupt my music collection?
It's not fun to see a Taking Back Sunday album filed under Nekromantix with song titles from The Offspring while it is actually an album by Rise Against. Rescanning my collection didn't solve the problem, so I had to manually delete the file and start with empty scores and statistics all over again. It's times likes these I wish Amarok could import statistics from Last.FM, or that I would write a plugin to keep statistics myself (but for now I will focus on extending Kiki's user profiles and my hopefully successful publish your gig calendar campaign).

Forever Dune
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 02:03 CEST
It seems like my "Forever Dune" appreciation site was by far not as eternal as the name implied. It has been years since it was down, but I notice some people still get redirected to my site because they are looking for Dune. This entry serves as a way to inform them more properly. Sorry guys, I no longer have any Dune pages up and in fact barely listen to electronic music anymore - in fact Dune and Scooter are the only bands I still occasionally play.
Feel free however to use the comment thread below to discuss Dune or maybe even sign up and promote Dune in your user profile or gig calendar! ;-)
(Yes, I keep pimping that stuff. Sue me.)

Fatboy!
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 08:19 CEST
Today I might just buy myself a Fatboy. They're expensive but I've seen a cool camouflage print and if the store that sells them has it in the right shape.. chances are I'll be doing some home decorating! I might even throw out an old couch. :-)
Although I want a big one (the "Circle" if possible), the round chair-sized ones are fun as well.. but that might just be eighties nostalgia! (We had a "poef" at home when I was younger.)

God's crimes against mankind
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 18:38 CEST
I wrote a poem denouncing God, based partially on Tim Maroney's essay Even If I did believe which argues that if the biblical God exists, that being is a sadistic bastard unfit for worship. Of course God has every right to torture, punish, divide, coerce and even order the occasional genocide.. I just don't feel inclined to condemn such actions nor people praising He who is responsible.
(Now listening to: Mission From God by The Offspring on Punk-O-Rama 10. Sweet irony.)

AdWords "System Down" error
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 19:11 CEST
Well, this is certainly a new experience for me:
, but Firefox isn't quite capable of showing a decent error message here, all I see is what appears to be XML mixed with a weird UTF-8 character. What the page actually should say (Konqueror works fine):
AdWords is temporarily down due to system maintenance until approximately 4:00pm PST on 29th July. Please note that your campaigns are running normally during this short downtime. We apologise for any inconvenience.
UTF-8 problems in Konqueror, now also in Firefox. What's a man supposed to do? Download MSIE for Linux?

Injection by Rise Against
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 21:08 CEST
I've been listening to Injection by Rise Against a lot lately: I love the song.
Something interesting I noticed: up until the third line of the first verse (half a minute into the song), it totally feels like a song by The Offspring. The guitar riffs, the break leading into the verse.. yes even the voice and intonation in the verse. It fools me into believing it's The Offspring every single time and that's a rather worthy accomplishment considering The Offspring is still my favourite band ever. I know all their songs by heart so confusing me is quite something!
Does anyone else ever experience that? Where you're convinced you're listening to a certain band and it turns out to be something completely different. And you keep falling for it?

Warped Tour plan
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 21:23 CEST
It's been four years since I've been to the US. It's about time I'm going again, so hereby I announce the plan to go back next summer - ten years after first setting foot in the New World.
I'll be trying to visit some Warped Tour dates and visit the Bay Area again (San Francisco rules!). I'm going to save up a bit of money upfront, I can do a quick Eurotrip on the fly but for a long US vacation it's a good idea to set some money aside.
Anyone who wants to tag along? Sure, I know everybody is skint but I'm sure we could work something out. No idea who'll be playing at Warped but it will be much fun!

MSN Pong
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 22:09 CEST
Fun game for MSN: pong! You're going to play a best of 1 game with your mates. The rules are simple:
To start playing, start a conversation with someone saying nothing but "bleep".
If that person answers with a bleep, you lose and must find another person. If that person doesn't respond with a bleep, he/she is now the one who must find someone to play MSN Pong with!
Bleep!
