Style updates - cleanup and Neon Rock

Software

Small site update: I removed the Kinki-II style because I no longer liked it and I removed a special HIM style because I no longer have any use for it. To make up for that, I also wrote a new style inspired by the layout of , called Neon Rock. It's a nifty black background with neon green and pink outbursts. Try it out from your preferences. If your style selection is set to load the default then you should already be enjoying (or loathing) it.

Anonymous automatic anchor association

Software

Say what? Well, potentially one of the cooler features I've written for my blog since the dynamic topic keywords not currently present: I can define phrases that will link to a URL automatically.

For instance, I only have to type "my poetry" to actually get a link (see?!) to the page on my website that contains, well, my poetry (hey!). But do note that most of my poetry (get the idea now?) requires you as reader to be logged into your user account (and there we go, another link I did not type).

I wonder how this code will affect my resume's PageRank. I can definitely see some benefits in having my resume linked everytime it is mentioned.

Energy prices still rising

European Union

The Beeb informs us what we already know: energy prices continue to rise:

British Gas said that wholesale gas prices are 63% higher this year than they were in 2005, and more than triple their 2003 levels.

Eek indeed. These must clearly be the first signs of peak oil then? Maybe not yet. This seems to be, as always, simply lousy EU regulation and statism:

British Gas said a main cause of the increases were anti-competitive practices in Europe, where gas and power markets have been slower to liberalise than in the UK and many of the largest companies are still state-owned.

Peak gas? Maybe when I eat a lot of onion rings.

Expect more (drunken) updates

Software

Life is good. I was never able to post updates to my journal from my phone but today I figured out why: I had not enabled cookies. I'm actually writing this on my Sony Ericsson K750 while enjoying bitterballs and a pint of beer at the pub. My GPRS subscription will finally be useful in more ways than checking live football scores and train schedules!

Next step will be to add proper MMS parsing to my journal for live (gig) pictures and maybe a transformation engine to translate SMS talk into proper English.

Vitesse Arnhem 1 - PSV Eindhoven 3

Sports

I can't say PSV played a good game, I honestly can't. But just a couple of chances in 90 minutes was all my team needed to get a result and stay clear of both Feyenoord and AZ. But an equaliser by Farfan and two late goals (Lamey and Farfan) decided the game and PSV stays favourite for the title while also in the race for both the cup and Champions League. Home game for the latter prize against French Olympique Lyon.

Drunk again!

Personal

I'm drunk once again but enjoying it. In fact I am doing quite fine because I fancy my new-found addiction of being able to work on my web site at the pub.

I am however waiting for a reply by Neil because he normally seems interested in the social consequenses of such a capability, sometimes even in the technical implementation. Come on mate, give me some feedback! Desktop computers are a thing of the past, handhelds will rule the world! Even if some skills in T9 are required.

Search not working on mobile

Software

Note to self: the search method of this journal is not properly working on mobile phones. I assume the problem is caused by the lack of a no-cache header on the page which causes my phone to not post the query because the target URL is the same as the one of the input page itself.

Yes I'm a geek. Deal.
