We all love Google

Software

I love .

The company has announced its own messaging platform, Google Talk. And I have to marvel at the greatness of the Great Google. What the KGB, Gestapo, Chicoms failed to accomplish, the Mountain View (Cali.) company is rapidly achieving: Orwellian powers.

Tight control of information inqueries (Google search, Google Groups, Google Earth), news and media aggregation (Google News), private communication (Google Mail, Google Talk) and shopping preferences (Froogle). No Echelon, national ID cards or Chinese FireWall necessary: the data nosy governments have to trace, Google gets delivered on a silver platter by its users who voluntarily place their entire life in their hands.

That doesn't necessarily make Google evil. But the company has the potential to become the largest source of snooping, propaganda and data mining/analysis to the extent where it constitutes an invasion of privacy.

At least participation is still voluntary.

Two quickies: comments are now also active for my poetry and I've actived a new stylesheet, Kinki-III, which is as pink as my shoes and then some.

(Feel free to change it to something else from your user preferences if you dislike it, or try it out if you have another stylesheet as preference.)
