More Kiki updates

Software

More Kiki software updates? That's correct: Kiki is the name for the PHP software I have written for this web site and I have been doing some work on it. Yesterday's update on access levels has gotten a follow-up: access levels now work for the journal mail digest! And, if your RSS reader has access to your login cookie, for RSS feeds as well.

What else is new in the geek part of my life? Not much. I'm still waiting for KDE 4 to be released so I can take advantage of KSVG2 for Atlantik. I might even resume development on it when that happens.

Software development is not a huge asset on the dating market though, especially not in the rock scene, so ideas to make it look hip and sexy are welcome!

Britain's social decline?

Anglosphere

Neil pointed me to another news item to worry about, this time about a 15-year-old HIV-infected schoolgirl giving birth in Wales. He informed me because apparently I have a preoccupation with "Britain's social decline", as he calls it.

HIV consultant Kathir Yoganathan, said the girl's case was "shocking".

He added: "If she hadn't become pregnant she would not have known that she was HIV positive. In young people it takes 10 to 15 years before symptoms appear.

Although quite disturbing, I am not actually worried about social decline. It's sad when parents fail to understand teenage sexuality and therefore do not imprint a "safe sex or no sex" mentality on their offspring. But you'd have to be on the very bottom end of the evolutionary ladder if you're still unaware of STDs and pregnancy. I bloody well knew about it in my early teen years.

I worry more about British crime and violence. Those create situations where victims are not in control. With sexual intercourse, any individual can fall back on personal responsibility. Mates of mine know my "safe sex or no sex" policy and I definitely let them know it's in their best interest to adopt the same.

Safe sex and abstinence are daily topics in papers, magazines, movies, music and sitcoms.. sleep around unprotected and frankly, you might get what you deserve.
