4x Weezer - Make believe and only in dreams?
- Posted by Rob (#1) on April 20, 2005 17:02 CEST
I will be seeing Weezer twice this year as they are playing two gigs at the Brixton Academy in London on June 14 and 15. But I'm a bit bummed out: there is a persistant rumour they will make an appearance at Download festival the prior weekend so I missed the chance for a treble by deciding to cancel my plans for Download. While I would have loved to see (and Ozzfest) there, Charlotte is coming over from Calgary so I won't be able to go. Sob.
But I might still see Weezer more than twice this year! See, another rumour goes around that they are the mystery guest for Green Day at Milton Keynes's National Bowl. That would actually mean seeing them four times in a span of six days! And to think that only a week ago I thought four times Green Day in six months this year and ten times HorrorPops in six months last year were impressive. Four times Weezer.. say it is so!

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life..

Did you know that..
More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.
So please help your government to regulate, no, ban bread! It's time our nanny state puts an end to the production and distribution of this vile evil.
Maybe playing with statistics like these is not new, but Samizdata's take on this that some people actually do think like this and build cases for (more) government controls certainly made me chuckle. It's a shame I always have to make my posts on these matters so completely over the top. Oh well. Someone please arrest me as I'm on my way towards a foot-long Sub melt.

Bring it on!

It would be insane to be HorrorPops webmaster (hell yeah, I am proud and don't believe in false modesty) and not have a journal category for the band. So there is one now.
Obviously I can't and won't post sensitive information, but I think it is safe to say I'm happy I will receive one of the promotional copies of the new album Bring it on! before it hits record stores. Thanks Patricia! It will be another wonderful album judging by the things I heard about it so far. It is such a shame I am not in Los Angeles and won't be able to make it to Canada or the Warped Tour this summer.
My own small scale promotional efforts are going very well, by the way: Dez loves the Hell yeah! CD I gave her a few weeks ago for her birthday. So did Amanda and I bet Inge and Jess will too (I cleared the stock of Virgin Megastore on Oxford St in March, sorry about that if it left someone empty-handed). Furthermore, Rotterdam is now covered by HorrorPops stickers. Okay, maybe not, but at least the gents of venues I have visited since September are. I also updated the Wikipedia entry for the band to reflect that HorrorPops are not psychobilly (note to all the haters: they never claimed to be).
Meh. This busy worker bee needs some gigs!

Feyenoord Rotterdam 1 - PSV Eindhoven 1

, but in knock out games they can result in the most thrilling moments of professional sports. Last week, PSV held Olympique Lyon to 1-1 and penalty shootouts did not only decide the quarter finals of the Champions League in PSV's favour, but they also actually caused mates and family to check up on me. Apparently I don't actually get heart attacks but penalties sure make me doubt my physical health.
So what happens tonight in the semi finals of the Dutch national cup in Rotterdam? Feyenoord leads by 1-0 after three minutes. A mere two minutes before the end Beasley ties the game for a laid back PSV resting many of its key players. Thirty more minutes proceed without a goal and for the second time in eight days I worry about my heart despite Gomes' two stops in the shoutout with Lyon..
Van Bommel scores for PSV. Ono ties. Farfán's effort is stopped by Babos (shite!). Goor misses (slight relief). Park brings PSV the lead again. Lazovic ties. Robert makes 3-2 in the series. De Graaf misses (a positive anxiety takes place). And then, Lucius shoots PSV to the final!
If that's not enough joy, second place AZ Alkmaar lost a league game tonight. That means PSV can clinch the national title with a home win this weekend. It will return to Rotterdam for the cup final against either Willem II Tilburg or Ajax Amsterdam. And it could even win the treble, requiring just three more solid performances (two semis against AC Milan and a possible final) in the UEFA Champions League.
Five games away from a treble? A team that lost keeper Ronald Waterreus and attackers Arjen Robben, Mateja Kezman and Eidur Gudjonsson, that team is five games away from a possible treble? It's nearly unbelievable, but it's true. And while I should not dismiss the qualities and performances of reinforcements Gomes, Alex, Beasley, Robert and veteran Cocu, it is worth noting that the last time a Dutch team won the treble was PSV in 1988, under current coach Guus Hiddink. They love him in South Korea. Well, everyone who is fond of Eindhoven loves him as well.
