Did the US deploy missile defence against Kim Jong?

Something that we'll all probably never know, because it won't be public for a generation or two: Did we blow up North Korea's ICBM that failed shortly after launch?
I wonder where that speculation comes from. Has there been any sign that this might have happened, or is it just positive thinking we're that much ahead of the bad guys?
