Man shot at Stockwell - oh well
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 25, 2005 14:32 CEST
There's quite some buzz on the Internet on whether the Mets acted correctly by shooting a man at Stockwell tube station. After all, it turned out he was not connected to the July 21 bombing attempts, nor the July 7 attacks on London.
Mr Menezes had boarded the number 2 bus to Stockwell.
Well, so did I on Friday.
But I was not in England on an expired visa. I did not wear an outrageous amount of clothing often used by suicide bombers to conceal. I did not ignore challenges by the police. I did not jump a vault in a tube station. I did not run away onto a tube.
Sure, this was a tragic incident. But this man was illegally residing in Britain and acted like a fool a mere day after an attempted attack, so I can't feel a bit sorry for him.

That's the spirit, Inter!

The football stars of Inter Milan cancelled their England tour due to terrorism concerns at the exact moment I was walking the streets of Stockwell and passing Oval tube station on a number 2 bus. So I was kind of looking forward to posting a "I'm braver than a bunch of millionaire pussies" entry. But alas, Inter Milan is touring England after all. Good for them, good for football supporters, bad for terrorists. We shall prevail.
And yeah, yeah. My actual trip summary will be up one of these days.
